/ GMRI and Rochford Thompson win US-visit Passport Reader Contract

Leading US systems integrator Government Micro Resources Inc (GMRI) has won a mission-critical contract to provide the US department of Homeland Security (DHS) with it's next generation of e-Passport readers - built around unique scanning technology provided by UK-based Rochford Thompson.
The US-VISIT contract award is for an initial 500 e-Passport readers with an option for an additional 300.
The e-Passport readers will be deployed at US ports of entry and will help to endure the authenticity of international travel documents. The US requires VISA waiver program countries to begin issuing fully compliant e-Passports by October 26, 2006. Also, the e-Passport readers provide US customs and border protection officers with another valuable tool for the use in the border inspection process.
GMRI's e_Passport readers are unique in that they are only readers to include Active Video document detection, which means that they will read travel documents in any orientation. The design of the readers is such that the officers may easily place passports in the scanning window, and the reading of the passport is faster, easier and more efficient.
Pat DuLaney, Program manager for GMRI, said: "Our two companies have been able to work together to provide DHS with a solution that not only meets it's objectives, but has an advantage of not requiring extensive operator training."
